THBS1 as a Key Regulator of Myoblasts: Validation of Its Inhibitory Roles in Skeletal Muscle Development

Abstract
Simple Summary Skeletal muscle plays a decisive role in the yield and quality of meat in mammals. It is regulated by a complex molecular network. Through transcriptome sequencing, we identified THBS1 as a core differentially expressed gene; however, its specific regulatory functions in skeletal muscle remain unclear. In this study, we demonstrated that the THBS1 gene inhibits the proliferation and differentiation of C2C12 myoblasts. It was also found to enhance the activity of the TGF-β signaling pathway, thereby suppressing cell proliferation and differentiation. These findings provide significant theoretical support for the potential application of the THBS1 gene as a molecular marker in regulating muscle growth and facilitating genetic improvements in livestock.
