The protein encoded by this gene is a member of a family of proteins that inhibits apoptosis by binding to tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factors TRAF1 and TRAF2, probably by interfering with activation of ICE-like proteases. This encoded protein inhibits apoptosis induced by serum deprivation and menadione, a potent inducer of free radicals. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.

Western blotting analysis using baculoviral IAP repeat containing 2 antibody . Baculoviral IAP repeat containing 2 expression in wild-type (WT) and baculoviral IAP repeat containing 2 (BIRC2) shRNA knockdown (KD) HSHC cells with 20 μg of total cell lysates. Hsp90 α serves as a loading control. The blot was incubated with baculoviral IAP repeat containing 2 antibody and HRP-conjugated goat anti-rabbit secondary antibody respectively. Image was developed using NaQ™ ECL Substrate Kit .

Western blotting analysis using BIRC2 antibody (Cat.#61996). Total cell lysates (30 μg) from various cell lines were loaded and separated by SDS-PAGE. The blot was incubated with BIRC2 antibody and HRP-conjugated goat anti-rabbit secondary antibody respectively. Image was developed using FeQ™ ECL Substrate Kit .
