This gene is a member of the glutathione S-transferase (GSTs) super-family which encodes multifunctional enzymes important in the detoxification of electrophilic molecules, including carcinogens, mutagens, and several therapeutic drugs, by conjugation with glutathione. This enzyme catalyzes the conversion of maleylacetoacetate to fumarylacetoacatate, which is one of the steps in the phenylalanine/tyrosine degradation pathway. Deficiency of a similar gene in mouse causes oxidative stress. Several transcript variants of this gene encode multiple protein isoforms.

Flow cytometric analysis of GSTZ1 expression in HeLa cells using GSTZ1 antibody . Green, isotype control; red, GSTZ1.

Western blotting analysis using GSTZ1 antibody . Total cell lysates (30 μg) from various cell lines were loaded and separated by SDS-PAGE. The blot was incubated with GSTZ1 antibody and HRP-conjugated goat anti-mouse secondary antibody respectively. Image was developed using NaQ™ ECL Substrate Kit .

Western blotting analysis using GSTZ1 antibody . GSTZ1 expression in wild-type (WT) and GSTZ1 shRNA knockdown (KD) HeLa cells with 20 μg of total cell lysates. Hsp90 α serves as a loading control. The blot was incubated with GSTZ1 antibody and HRP-conjugated goat anti-mouse secondary antibody respectively. Image was developed using NaQ™ ECL Substrate Kit .

Validation of GSTZ1 knockdown using flow cytometry. Wild-type(WT, Blue) and knockdown(KD, Green) HeLa cells were stained with GSTZ1 antibody and analyzed using BD flow cytometer.
