This gene encodes a member of a small family of proteins which bind single stranded DNA/RNA. These proteins are characterized by the presence of two sets of ribonucleoprotein consensus sequence (RNP-CS) that contain conserved motifs, RNP1 and RNP2, originally described in RNA binding proteins, and required for DNA binding. These proteins have been implicated in such diverse functions as DNA replication, gene transcription, cell cycle progression and apoptosis. Several transcript variants, resulting from alternative splicing and encoding different isoforms, have been described. A pseudogene for this locus is found on chromosome 12.

Validation of RBMS1 knockdown using flow cytometry. Wild-type(WT, Blue) and knockdown(KD, Green) HeLa cells were stained with RBMS1 antibody and analyzed using BD flow cytometer.

Western blotting analysis using RBMS1 antibody . RBMS1 expression in wild-type (WT) and RBMS1 shRNA knockdown (KD) HeLa cells with 20 μg of total cell lysates. Hsp90 α serves as a loading control. The blot was incubated with RBMS1 antibody and HRP-conjugated goat anti-mouse secondary antibody respectively. Image was developed using FeQ™ ECL Substrate Kit .

Western blotting analysis using RBMS1 antibody . Total cell lysates (30 μg) from various cell lines were loaded and separated by SDS-PAGE. The blot was incubated with RBMS1 antibody and HRP-conjugated goat anti-mouse secondary antibody respectively. Image was developed using FeQ™ ECL Substrate Kit .
