生长/分化因子 8 (GDF8)，又称肌生长抑制素，可负向调节肌肉质量。GDF8 通过与其 N 端前结构域相互作用而处于潜伏状态。与众多 TGF-β 家族成员一样，GDF8 是一种二硫键连接二聚体，合成为前体蛋白，需要通过弗林样蛋白酶裂解才能产生 N 端前结构域和 C 端成熟的信号传导结构域。
