The protein encoded by this gene is an antioxidant enzyme and belongs to the peroxiredoxin family. The protein is localized to the cytoplasm. Peroxidases of the peroxiredoxin family reduce hydrogen peroxide and alkyl hydroperoxides to water and alcohol with the use of reducing equivalents derived from thiol-containing donor molecules. This protein has been found to play a regulatory role in the activation of the transcription factor NF-kappaB.

Flow cytometric analysis of Peroxiredoxin 4 expression in HAP-1 cells using Peroxiredoxin 4 antibody . Green, isotype control; red, Peroxiredoxin 4.

Validation of Peroxiredoxin 4 knockdown using flow cytometry. Wild-type(WT, Blue) and knockdown(KD, Green) HeLa cells were stained with Peroxiredoxin 4 antibody and analyzed using BD flow cytometer.

Immunohistochemistry was performed on paraffin-embedded human sigmoid colon carcinoma using peroxiredoxin 4 antibody . Antigen retrieval was done in sodium citrate buffer (pH 6.0). DAB was used for detection, with hematoxylin counterstaining. Images were acquired using a Nikon Ci-L Plus microscope (40× objective). Scale bar, 25 μm.
